Tea with the Queen

My wonderful and amazing teaching partner, Sally, invited Taylee to “Tea with the Queen.”  To understand this, you have to have a little background knowledge.  Sally has this pretty incredible chair in her classroom.  It really looks like a throne.  Taylee loves it because as she told Sally, “It looks like a queen’s chair.”  So that’s become the running line.  Sally is the queen.  At first this bothered Taylee because ‘her mom is the queen.’  But now she is okay with us both being princesses.  For Christmas, Sally found Taylee this book called Tea Time for Ruby.  In the book the little girl gets an invitation to have tea with the queen.  She is so excited and tells everyone about it and on every page is doing something very un-queenly like as she’s telling them about her invitation.  Things like slurping her noodles, yelling when she’s supposed to be quiet, not saying please or thank you…  Finally, it is time to have tea with the queen.  Ruby gets all dressed up and goes to the Queen’s house only to find it’s her grandma.  She couldn’t be more thrilled and has a wonderful time.  At the back of the book was an invitation addressed to “Princess T” in which Sally invited Taylee to have teas with the queen.  The book is pretty true to reality for Taylee.  The day before her tea, we had to do rag curls.  Then on the big day she tried on about 9 dresses and 4 different headbands, and several pairs of shoes….  She finally decided on an outfit and we drove to the queen’s house. Sally looked astounding.  Taylee said, “I was not expecting that dress and I was NOT expecting those gloves.”  She was very impressed and had a lovely time.  We are so lucky to have Sally in our “village” raising Taylee.
