Taylee's Teeth

Taylee’s mouth is small.  You wouldn’t think it to listen to her, but her mouth is tiny, too tiny in fact.  Last December she had three teeth pulled by the dentist (almost 4 but the fourth one finally came out on its own just before her appointment).  These four teeth had to go to make room for two teeth adult teeth.  That’s right, four baby teeth were squished together in a space sized for two adult teeth.  We could see we were most likely going to have to pull every bottom tooth out.  Two of her top baby teeth came out on their own and we were excited.  But then we noticed the adult teeth coming in were pretty squished up there too and there was another bottom adult tooth coming in exactly perpendicular to her jaw line.  So off to the orthodontist at the age of six and one x-ray later the news is well, expensive.  Her mouth is too small so the adult teeth are coming in where they fit, and not touching the roots of the baby teeth which releases an enzyme to dissolve the baby roots.  Since the roots are not dissolving at all and the adult teeth are coming in crazy, we now have a standing 3-4 month appointment at the orthodontist and will most likely have to pull every single tooth, top and bottom.  Taylee is a trooper.  I hear horror stories about kids just getting their teeth cleaned at the dentist.  Taylee has so far had seven teeth pulled at the dentist and she is one tough cookie.  This last appointment, she had two teeth pulled on top and two teeth pulled on bottom.  That’s four shots into the gums and gas.  She squeezed her little stuffed animal tight, but only nodded when the dentist asked if she was doing okay.  You wouldn’t believe the size of those roots!  So we are looking into dental insurance, but most are being very thankful our little girl is so brave!
